I'm Not Just That Scared Little Girl
This "side-RP" follows Alexandra "Alex" Mayer and Serena Rivers, as Serena proceeds to reveal her true potential through a little talk the two girls decide to have. Alex tries to help Serena relax and become less scared of the others, but will she be able to succeed? |

"Serena?" a soft voice called, shattering the silence of the dusk. Alex Mayer was standing a few feet away from Serena. The two other members of their group, Leo and Aidan, had gone off to search for something to eat. After all, they had been wandering around for a whole day. "Can we talk, Serena?" Alex asked again, her voice firm, but her eyes gentle and caring. She didn't want to intimidate little Serena, but she did want it to seem like she was serious.

Serena had been sitting with her legs pulled up to her chest, enduring the pangs of hunger, growling in her stomach. After walking for so long, Serena had been overworked and exhausted. She was pulled from her drowsy state by the gentle voice of Alex calling to her. She looked at Alex, with small amounts of fear building up at what she was about to say. Serena was scared that Alex was going to leave her, as Serena had still not been much use, up to this point. "Yes." She nodded in response to Alex's question.

Bending down so that she was the same height as Serena, Alex gazed at her with concerned, yet serious eyes. "Serena... you have to stop being so jitterish and nervous around everyone. We want to help you. We're your friends and we'll protect you when you need it." she murmured. She smiled at Serena. "I know you have some hidden power in there, Serena, otherwise, Cresselia wouldn't have chosen you. Don't be so scared. All of us are here to help you, Serena."

This was the other thing that Serena didn't want to talk about. "I-I'm sorry..." She covered her face into her legs, which were still brought up to her chest. "I don't know why... I don't want to be this way..." She was starting to feel embarrassed once again. "I... I want to be... I want to laugh and have fun with Alex..." She paused for a moment. "I will protect Alex too..."

Alex smiled at the younger girl. "Just relax, Serena. We're all your friends. You don't need to be scared of us." she murmured, "Just relax..." She felt a little awkward in this situation. She had never been good with children younger than herself, but she preferred to hang around older children. She never really knew how to handle crying children, either... and she felt that Serena was close to crying.

Serena looked up and saw Alex. She reached out and grabbed Alex's hand with both her hands. "It's okay, I'll try harder... As long as Alex is with me, I will be happy." She gave Alex a smile. "But.." She thought how to bring up her concerns. "I.. I'm still nervous about the two boys in our group." She never really interacted with any boys, besides her father. She was glad they were here to find food, though.

"Aidan and Leo? Oh, don't worry about them! They're just like big brothers... though, that's probably a lot easier for me to say, as I have a brother. They're nice kids. I promise they won't hurt you." Alex murmured, patting the younger girl on the head with the hand that wasn't being clutched. "Don't worry. They're good kids!"

Serena's eyes widened, not out of shock, but of small amounts of excitement. "Big brother?" She repeated. "I've never had a big brother." Hints of embarrassment appearing in her voice and face. She quickly washed that away and looked back at Alex with a smile. "What's a big brother like?"

"Well, I had a little brother, but he was only a minute or two younger than me. I've never had a big brother, either. My friend had a big brother, though. Her big brother was really kind to us. He was like an umbrella, a shield... taking all the bad things away before they could reach us..." Alex murmured, but she trailed off as she remembered how he had died in the same "accident" that had taken her parents.

As the older girl spoke, Serena took in every word. But, after the first few sentences, she stopped listening. "That sounds awesome!" She looked away. "Do you really think they will be big brothers to me...?" She scooted closer to Alex. "Could you... be my big sister?" She liked to think that they would be a happy family.

Alex smiled at the younger girl's words. "Of course I can be your big sister, but we'll have to ask them if they want to be your big brothers." she murmured, gently patting Serena on the head. Whenever she was with Serena, Alex felt as if she was back in Starpphire City, with all her friends and her parents and Luke, just sitting together and talking. It felt so... right.

Serena looked up at Alex with excitement. She was still scared to what the boys would say, since it wasn't certain they would agree. Although, she was excited to think she would have a brother, and if it was as amazing as Alex said, she couldn't wait... Serena flinched slightly and looked away as she felt Alex pat her head. She spoke what was on her mind. "Do you think they will play with us?" She asked, completely ignoring that fact that they were Communicators and had a duty to fulfill.

Alex stifled a small laugh. "Well, I don't know if they'll be able to play with us. After all, we're sort of in a hurry to find these so-called clues, aren't we, Serena?" she murmured, smiling. "But, if you really want to, I suppose we could put aside a day sometime to just play. That is, if Aidan and Leo don't mind." She hoped Serena wouldn't realize that she was just teasing. It would be rather hard for them to put aside a day to rest, much less to play.

Serena excitedly clasped her hands together. "Do you really think so?" She fell into her world of imagination, with everyone playing together. Her daydream was cut short as she thought about what Alex said. "Clues?" She lost some of her happiness. "I'm not all that strong, so I don't know how much I can help..." She then held a determined face. "But I will protect Alex!"

Alex broke into a huge grin at Serena's enthusiasm. "Of course you can help, Serena! C'mon, I'm sure Cresselia gave you some powers when it made you its Communicator, right? Can you tell me exactly what powers you have? Maybe I could help you get better at them so you can help us find some clues. Maybe you just don't really know what you can do with them yet." Alex murmured. "When I first figured out my powers, I was really bad at them, too, but I practiced a lot, so, now I've gotten a lot better! Maybe we can do that to help you too!"

Serena's face burnt red. "Th... They aren't good... My powers..." She looked down and tried to compose herself. "As long as its Alex... I'll tell her." She gripped her hands and continued avoiding eye contact. "I... I can cure small injuries... It makes me really tired." Serena felt her whole body heat up. "Um... The... Uh... The other power I have is... Um..." She couldn't get the words out. The Sun still gave some light, and Serena took that sunlight and made herself glow slightly. After a few seconds, she stopped glowing. Serena huffed, as if it took a considerable amount of her energy to do this. "Well... Um... That. I can glow a lot brighter than that." She started breathing heavily. "D-Don't think that I'm weak just because I can do that! I-I-I'm just tired from walking all day..." Serena felt embarrassed and braced for Alex to make fun of her powers. Serena knew that they were useless, but she was determined to protect Alex, no matter what.

Alex grinned. "Serena, that's awesome! I knew we'd probably have a healer out of all the Communicators, but I never remembered that Cresselia had the gift of healing. You're not weak at all; those powers are brilliant! You don't seem like a fighter... you could just help us distract our foes if we need to and you can heal us if we're injured or something. You're awesome!" she exclaimed, smiling. She hadn't expected Serena's powers to be this strong and, Alex was sure, they'd become even stronger with just a little bit of practice. "That was really great, Serena! Your powers are really strong!"

"Do you... really think so?" Serena looked up at the older girl. She was so happy Alex thought this way. A big smile appeared on Serena's face. "Thank you! I promise to always protect Alex! I'll get stronger and stronger and no one will hurt Alex!" Her smile went away and curiosity filled its place. "Um... What are Alex's powers?"

Alex grinned at the younger girl. "Well, you already know my first power. I can use telepathy, but my second power..." she paused. The air around Alex's body seemed to shimmer for a moment, before Alex's image flickered once and vanished into nothingness. A few moments later, Alex appeared again behind Serena. "Boo!"
