She perked up. "Oh! I really love my mommy and daddy!" She settled back down, but held the same amount of excitement in her voice. "Does Luke love the girl like I love my mommy and daddy?" She tried really hard to make a connection. "So... Like a sister? I think..." She was trying to understand, but the only love she had felt was for her parents and friends.

Alex shook her head. "No, Serena. Luke loves her like..." she began. Alex couldn't really think of any examples, though. "He loves her like..." Alex sighed. "Well, it's not really like a sister. It's sort of like that, but it's also very different." Alex muttered lamely. Alex didn't really know how to explain this "other type of love" and she hoped that Serena wasn't going to question her further.

Serena closed her eyes and put her fingers to her temples. After a while of deep thinking she opened them. "Ah! I get it now! It's like how my mommy loves my daddy, right?" She looked at Alex and smiled, pleased with herself. "So they are going to get married!" That hung in the air for a few moments, while she was lost in her own fantasies. Shortly after, Serena's confusion returned. "My daddy never tripped in front of my mommy before... I guess I don't understand..." She slumped and set her head on the older girl. "Does Alex love someone like that?"

Mentally, Alex groaned. "It's a little bit like that, except they probably won't get married." she murmured, fidgeting slightly. "And, like I said before, it's just a figure of speech... It doesn't really mean that Luke tripped in front of her..." Alex frowned. It was clear that she didn't like talking about this, especially since she had always thought of Luke as her "little brother" and she didn't particularly want to answer Serena's last question. "Um, let's talk about something else." Alex mumbled, her cheeks turning a faint shade of pink, as she curled a lock of hair around her index finger.

Serena's excitement was wiped from her face. "I'm sorry..." She gripped the girl's shirt. "Did I make Alex uncomfortable ?" She closed her eyes. "It sounded exciting..." She pushed her sadness away and smiled. "What does Alex want to talk about?" She thought for a second. "I want to know more about Alex!"

"It's fine, Serena..." Alex murmured quickly, noticing how Serena's excitement had vanished in a flash. "Actually, I really want to hear more about you... if that's okay with you, of course." she said, smiling encouragingly.

"Me?" She looked at the older girl. "I... I don't really don't know what to say..." Her voice grew quieter as Serena fell into thought. "What does Alex want to know?"

"Well, I just want to know about your life and your family. I just want to know whatever you want me to know." Alex murmured, smiling at the younger girl. "Just whatever you're comfortable telling me..."

"I... Um..." She wasn't quote sure where to start. She played with Alex's hair absentmindedly as she thought. Her thoughts kept drifting to her friend that passed away, but Serena wasn't sure whether or not to tell Alex about it. After all, it was because of Serena's friend that Serena has such a deep attachment to Alex. Serena was afraid Alex would make fun of her reasons. Her mouth opened and closed several times as she thought of what to say, then dismissed it. "Well... I live with my mommy and daddy in Lumiose City. My mommy works at a Pokemon Center and..." She stopped as a look of confusion appeared on her face. A few moments later she started speaking again, while continuing to play with Alex's hair. "I don't really know what my daddy does..." She admits with embarrassment. "I love them both so much! My mommy lets me go to the Pokemon Center every day after school to play with the sick Pokemon." Her excitement slowed down. "It was so sad to see all the sick and hurt Pokemon... But I did everything to help them!" Her face now held determination. "I'm going to be the best doctor in the world! No one will be hurt or sick and everyone will be happy..."
She stopped and a small flash of sadness showed on her face. She quickly put on a smile. "I don't know what else to say! I kinda miss my mommy and daddy..." She set her head on Alex for comfort. "Once this is all over I'm going to go back go them... " She suddenly jerked up and looked Alex in the eyes with a look of worry. "But! But... Alex will come with me right?" Now her face was full of alarm. "Wait! Alex needs to go to her own mommy and daddy!" Serena fell silent as she went back and forth in her head. "I got it! Alex will come live with my mommy and daddy and she will bring her mommy and daddy." She nodded in agreement with herself, not seeing any flaws with her plan. She then set her head on Alex's shoulder once again. "Does Alex have a nice mommy and daddy too?"

Alex saw Serena's face flicker through different emotions: happiness, sadness, joy, confusion, embarrassment, determination. "I..." she began, not exactly knowing what to say. She didn't want to lie to Serena, but telling the truth... telling the truth would be even worse, almost. She didn't have much of a choice, though. "Well, I... had a nice mother and father, but... um, Team Eternity attacked our city and destroyed the entire village and killed almost everyone. They captured Luke and me, but we managed to escape..." she muttered, feeling extremely uncomfortable.

"Alex..." Serena's face turned pale and she felt sick. She her face into the girl's stomach to hide her emotions. She grabbed onto Alex's shirt and hugged tightly. "Why..." Her voice was muffled. A few minutes passed, then Serena slowly looked up at Alex. Tears welled in her eyes and one fell slowly down her cheek. "Why are they so mean?" She didn't understand Team Eternity or their motives at all. She set her head back down on the older girl. She felt awful, since she just got finished talking about talking about her own parents. Serena couldn't handle death, but even then, she wasn't sure why she was crying. Was is because she missed her own friend who passed away? Serena didn't know was to do and felt weak and ridiculous for acting this way.

"It's okay, Serena." Alex murmured lightly, though her retelling of her life had torn a hole in her heart. "Everyone has their own reasons and we have to understand." Her hand had curled into a fist. "It's fine... Luke and I still have each other." she whispered, her other hand stroking Serena's hair in a rhythmic pattern. "No matter what crimes have been committed against us, we still must attempt to understand the criminals." she murmured, even though she didn't even quite believe what she was saying.

"I... Don't understand..." She spoke quietly. "Why would they hurt Alex...?" Her questions were stated rhetorically, as if she was asking the world these things. She had started to calm down. "Why do people have to fight, Alex? Why can't we all get along?" These questions were directed at Alex, but she wasn't exactly expecting an answer. "I just want everyone to be happy." She hugged Alex tightly. "I will make Alex happy." She wiped her tears and smiled at the girl. "Let's always be happy, okay?"

Alex sighed, pushing her hair back behind her shoulders. "There's no such thing as always being happy, Serena. Grief, pain, and anger are all part of life and all of humanity. Fighting is also part of human nature, Serena. Life is just like this." she muttered, seeming slightly annoyed.

Serena was shocked at Alex's words. She felt hurt. Serena closed her eyes and looked away. "Everyone will be happy..." She whispered, almost inaudible. She couldn't understand why Alex was saying these things.

"Everyone will be happy?" Alex asked, "No! That is just a fantasy, a dream!" Alex felt as if she had been a hot-air balloon, full of hot air, and now, she had exploded. Guilt racked her heart when she saw Serena's expression. "I... I'm sorry, Serena. That happens every once in a while, when I'm just thinking about how unfair our world is." she murmured, pulling the younger girl back into her embrace.

Alex's outburst scared Serena, which made her tremble. She was silenced by fear all she could do was sit next to Alex. She couldnt even look ay the older girl. It upset Serena that Alex thought this way. When Alex hugged her once more, Serena wanted to resist, but was too afraid. As her head rested on the other girl, she spoke, but her voice was soft. She wasn't specifically speaking for Alex to hear. "Alex... Will... Be happy..." There was extra emphesis on 'will.' A couple moments passed when Serena spoke once again. "I... I will do whatever it takes for Alex to be happy." It hurt whenever she saw someone who was sad, but with someone like Alex, who Serena cared for immensely, it felt her heart was shattering.

Alex pursed her lips, as if she was extremely disappointed in the younger girl. "If you say so." she replied apathetically, turning away. Not saying another word, Alex got to her feet again and began to walk away quickly into the woods.

Serena started to panic as Alex walked away. She didn't want to be left alone. As she thought, she decided it may be better if Alex went off by herself for a while. She crumpled and laid herself on the ground, using her arms as pillows. She buried her head in her arms. Serena decided to use Alex's telepathy. I'm sorry...

Hearing Serena's voice clearly in her head, Alex sighed and quickly visualized the younger girl within her head. What for? You've done nothing wrong, really. Something was nagging in Alex's heart. She shouldn't have left Serena alone. What if Serena was attacked? She had just told Serena that Alex would be an older sister... what type of older sister would she be if she just left her little sister there to be killed? Sighing, she turned back towards where she had last seen Serena.
