•Athene Xaverie Delatour • "I'd like a tall black coffee, please. Make it quick."
Athene stood quietly behind the barista's bar, checking her smartphone every so often. The young woman had a look of concentration on her face, which was somewhat off-putting to the people around her. She ignored their cautious looks and lifted her eyes look at her watch. 5:47 A.M. Though she was still early, Athene was intent on keeping her schedule.
"Athene, your coffee is ready at the bar."
After grabbing her early morning pick-me-up, Athene thanked the barista and headed out of the airport coffee shop. She sipped the hot drink and grimaced slightly. The faire was much different from her organic Columbian mix at home, that's for sure. Her heels clicked firmly, revealing her quick steps toward the gate toward the end of the airport.
At precisely 5:50 A.M., Athene arrived at her gate headed toward New York, right on time. With plenty of time to spare, she primly sat down on a nearby chair to wait for her 6:30 A.M. plane. She checked her phone again, waiting for a certain text message with mild intensity. It was as if she willed it, as her phone buzzed a couple of seconds later. My flight just landed. I will meet you at the baggage claim when your plane lands. - A.Athene smiled. It had been so long since she had last seen her beloved twin brother. When she found out that he would be in New York City for a couple of days on business, Athene immediately took the same days off from her own work. Both of their schedules were so busy, that the twins rarely saw each other. In fact, it would have been almost eight months since she last saw him in person.
"Whenever I see that idiot, he owes me money," she whispered to herself.
A while back, the two of them had made a bet that both of them would be in steady relationships when they next met. Her brother said it wouldn't happen, but somehow, the two of them managed to find love. This would also be the first time that Athene met her brother's love interest. She had heard many things about him, but this would be the first face-to-face meeting.
Her own boyfriend, Cassius, was unable to find time off work. Athene was somewhat disappointed, but Cassius was a very busy CEO. Athene smiled when she thought of her lovely boyfriend, slightly melancholy at their separation. It would only be for a couple of days, but Athene already missed him. The whole experience was so foreign to her, but she loved every second spent with Cassius.
On the flight to New York, Athene sat and looked out the window from first class, left alone with her thoughts. So much had changed in so few months, but the future looked so bright. She found herself thinking of yesteryear, the days that she spent at Polaris High School. She had been such a dedicated nerd back then, resident genius along with her brother. They had gotten a lot of grief back then, but look how far they had come. Athene was glad those four years of hell were over. They were far away from the present and she was ever so happy that they remained in the past.

• Seth Griffin Orion • It was mid-morning when Seth finally decided to get out of bed. His New York flat was chilly, so all he really wanted to do was stay under the duvet for a couple more hours. Unfortunately, the other half of the king-sized bed was empty - Anna had already gone to work, leaving Seth to sleep longer.
He had always admired his girlfriend's rigor with her job. Seth could tell that she absolutely loved her job. They had moved to New York together to let her pursue her career. Seth, on the other hand, preferred his job as a journalist and was able to be flexible about where they lived. With a stroke of luck, he found himself as part of the New York Times and spent his hours away from home gathering information for the next newspaper article.
That being said, he had an interview with a local businessman in an hour, so Seth finally extracted himself from bed. The steps from the bedroom to the bathroom were terribly cold and he shivered the entire time until he could step into the hot shower. After a quick shave and his morning routine, Seth grabbed his jacket and headed toward the nearby coffee shop for his breakfast.
It was like clockwork for him, getting his daily latte. In fact, he had started the routine back in high school. High school, that took him back a couple of years. In Polaris High, Seth had definitely been the bad boy troublemaker of his class. Skipping school, smoking cigarettes, and dating girls - that was his whole life. And Seth never thought twice about it.
It wasn't until his junior year at college that he met Anna, his current girlfriend. Even by the first time he met her, Seth knew she was something special. Some asshole had stood her up, but Seth stepped in to fill the seat. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but boy, was it the best decision that he ever made. High school Seth would never had imagined having a girl for longer than two weeks, but now, Seth and Anna were going on almost four years.
In fact, Seth had a little box back in the loft that he had hidden from Anna for a couple of months. Inside was proof of his commitment and love for her, a beautiful diamond engagement ring. He had been sweating the moment for a long time, unsure of how to pop the question. He and Anna had talked about getting married, but he hadn't had the courage to actually get down on one knee in front of her.
However, Christmas was coming up soon and Seth wanted to propose before then. Anna had always had a special love for that holiday, so he wanted to tie that in somehow. The days were flying by quickly and Seth really needed to make a decision soon. He had already asked Anna's younger brother, Charlie, for his approval. That was an ordeal in of itself, but eventually, he said yes.
A cold shock pulled Seth away from his thoughts. There, falling from the sky was a small flurry of snowflakes. Seth scoffed slightly. This could be somewhat problematic for him. Anna had planned on flying back to see her brother for Christmas, but if the snow built up, they would be grounded in New York. It didn't really matter to Seth. As long as he was with Anna, he would be content.
But about that ring...
